Hello! My name is Corey Petersen. How can I help?
A little about me...I was born in Mission Viejo, California, but I consider myself from "all over" after moving around 6 states throughout the US. Not having a traditional hometown experience wasn't always easy, but I found my true home in the connections I made with the people I have met along the way.
When I am not practicing therapy, I am probably teaching or training. I am lucky enough to have been an adjunct teacher and lecturer for Communication and Psychology courses for 10 years and love every minute of it. Aside from that, I am likely seeing a movie (I'm a big movie buff!), re-watching old seasons of The Amazing Race, or listening to late 90s/early 2000s angsty rock music- It’s not just a phase!
I attended school for 15 years to learn research-supported ways to help others communicate and feel better. Along with my Master’s degree to become an LCMFT, I earned a Master's degree in Professional Communication, two Bachelor's in Communication and Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies. As a firm believer in self-improvement and living a valued life, it only makes sense that I would invest so much time in something that fills me. I hope to help you find what fills you.
Aside from my formal education in communication and psychology I have sought out specialized training in various areas; such as chronic pain and illness, neurodiversity, family/relational conflict, self-harm, and anxiety. I meet with teenagers (age 16-18) and adults of all ages.
